CONNECT

At Highlands, we care about our members. We have many opportunities to connect as a community

Member Care Committee- Connect page

Chairperson: Julia Wolfson

Committee members: Nancy Marsh, Sarah Shepherd, Barbara Ruby, Diane Beirne, Jean Collins

At Highlands, we care about our members and want to share that care and concern with each other.

Shepherd Program: Families are assigned a special volunteer who acts as a “Shepherd” for them. Each “Shepherd” helps the Pastoral staff in overseeing the needs of our members on a regular basis, and especially in times of more urgent need. The Pastoral staff wants to serve the congregation at all times, but especially when there is crisis. Members are encouraged to inform the staff and/or their “Shepherd” when they are in special need or any other times of great joy or concern. For more information about the Shepherd Program, please contact Nancy Marsh at (904) 635-7582.

Greeters: At every Worship service, you will find volunteer greeters at the front door, just waiting to give you a welcoming smile along with a hug or handshake. We look forward to seeing each and every one of you and want to share our joy as you enter to Worship God. You will also see us as you leave the Worship service to ask you to stay a few minutes and enjoy a cup of coffee or small snack before you head on your way. If you are interested in being added onto the rotation schedule for greeting, please contact Diane Beirne at (904) 333-0888.

Prayer Chain: Each week, an email is sent out sharing all identified prayer concerns. The power of prayer is mighty indeed, and we practice it faithfully in our living. If you have a prayer concern, or if you wish to be added to the email recipients list, please contact Barbara Ruby at (904) 502-0886 or by email at rubyjbn3@comcast.net.

Prayer Bears and Caring Critters: Every Sunday, the front pew in the Worship service has a few plush friends (teddy bears and other stuffed animals) listening along to the sermon, hearing the prayers of the people, and absorbing the love in our sanctuary. If you know of someone who is in need of a cuddly friend, we ask for a $10 donation and you can share a Prayer Bear or Caring Critter with that special someone. Please mark your donation “prayer bear” and place it in the offering plate or drop it off at the front office. You may take your choice of bear or critter.

Prayer Blankets: Sometimes during our walk through life, we find ourselves in greater need of being wrapped up in a blanket of love. Highlands special prayer blankets are blessed during the worship service and touched by the entire congregation. The recipient is lifted up in prayer before receiving the blanket. For more information about Prayer Blankets, please contact Diane Beirne at (904) 333-0888.

Lunch Bunch: Lunch Bunch meets at noon on the first Wednesday of each month at a pre-determined restaurant. We try to support locally owned businesses and would love for you to join us! No reservation is needed so just show up on any first Wednesday. The restaurant will be noted in the Sunday bulletin prior to the first Wednesday and is also shown on the website calendar.

Supper Clubs: Everyone loves a good gathering with friends and a meal. Supper Clubs typically meet monthly. Clubs may be put together according to neighborhoods, similar age or interests. Anyone is welcome to be a part of this fellowship. To find a Supper Club, please contact Nancy Marsh at (904) 635-7582.

Home visits: One of the ways the Member Care committee shares in the joys and concerns of all members is via home visits. If you are unable to get to Church on Sundays and want to stay in personal contact, please call Sarah Shepherd at (904) 610-2836. We are happy to visit with you! Also, we will be pleased to bring you or mail you a typed copy of Dr Dave’s sermon along with the Sunday bulletin.

Mailed cards: The Member Care committee is honored to recognize each member on your birthday and anniversary via cards in the mail.
